Trash to Treasure

"He raises the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump. He sets them among princes..." Psalm 113:7-8a (NLT)

My God is in the rescue business! He delights in redeeming His children from the pit - even the garbage dump - and giving them a place of honor.  Psalm 72:12 says He delivers the needy who cry out to Him. And verse 14 of the same Psalm says He rescues His own from violence and oppression because they are precious in His sight.

I was once needy - desperately needy - surrounded by the garbage in my life, but God... God came to the rescue. One of the passages that sums His redemption up best for me is now the verse Michael and I claim as our marriage life verse, Psalm 40:1-3. It says, "I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the muck and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD."

Are you standing in a pit of dispair, or on a heap of trash - or are your feet firmly planted on the Rock? If not the latter, take courage and put your hope in the Lord. God is in the rescue business! He has a place of honor reserved for each one of His precious children. For each one willing to cry out to Him in their neediness. Cry out and take His hand! Ask Him to set your feet on solid ground, deliver you from the pit and point you toward the path of deliverance. God is faithful and He will do it! In His time and in His way, He will do it.

Thank You Father for rescuing me. Thank You for hauling away the trash in my life and giving me a place of honor and purpose. Thank You for turning my trash into treasure. Help me God to serve You well. In Jesus' name, amen.
